An Original Series by Kate Kilpatrick

Dear Future Me.

Oil paintings. Augmented reality. Children beside the people who changed history.

What if a little girl could stand beside Rosa Parks the moment she refused to give up her seat? What if a boy could look Harvey Milk in the eye before the world caught up to what he knew?

Dear Future Me is an ongoing series of large-scale oil paintings that place young children alongside the historical figures who shaped the world they will inherit — Rosa Parks, Harvey Milk, Marsha P. Johnson, Jackie Robinson, and others.

These children are not spectators of history. They are part of its unfolding.

Each painting is paired with an augmented reality layer — point a phone at the canvas and the story expands. Voices. Context. The weight of the moment, made real for a new generation.

The Figures

Each painting pairs a child with someone who changed everything.

Rosa Parks

Montgomery, Alabama. December 1, 1955. She stayed seated — and a movement stood up.

Harvey Milk

The first openly gay elected official in California. He told the world: you are not alone.

Jackie Robinson

He crossed a line that was never supposed to move. And he moved it anyway.

Marsha P. Johnson

A force of nature who fought for dignity long before the world was ready to listen.

Augmented Reality

The painting is just the beginning.

Each piece in the Dear Future Me series comes with an AR layer built in. Scan the painting with your phone and the story opens up — historical context, audio, and visual storytelling that brings the moment to life for kids and adults alike.

Art you can walk up to. Art you can look into. Art that talks back.

"These children
are not spectators
of history."
